A little history...

Empowering Plantagenet Seniors (EPS) started with a conversation I had with Len Handasyde on the 16 March about oldies self isolating and getting groceries delivered.

On 18 March Karen Woltering set up a Facebook page, so I was able to send out a call for volunteers and also to advise them on meeting times.

Thanks to the CO-OP, Gary Tempany and Janelle Greeney, the first deliveries went out on 24 March. Since then we have made over 1,100 deliveries.

On about 23 April, while waiting for our turn to deliver we were talking about what else we could do, so formed a group and talked about incorporation.

We were incorporated on the 8th of May thanks to major assistance from Dylan Parker, Mount Barker Legal.

Our first meeting was held by phone, on the 11th of May.

The inaugural board comprised some delivery people and Gary Tempany, he was always there to assist and Karen suggested, Marilyn Marshall for Secretary, Andrew Fraser MBCC and Hellen Dunwoodie from the RAS team was my suggestion.

Our first face to face meeting was held on the 24th of June. The Council Meeting on the 16th of June resolved to pass our application for a lease on the lower town hall and the lease was signed with EPS responsible for all costs from the 2nd of July.

June 20th was our first busy bee with all hands really busy preparing for our Seniors open day on the 20th of August.

I have never before been part of a group that has done so much in such a small space of time.

Opening Night...

Opening night was on the 22nd of August, with catering by Rhonda. Great food and fun night. Many thanks to Denis Ireland, MC and Craig Gibson, auctioneer, with the auction raising $4100. Two raffles made $1000.

Sincere thanks to all at the Shire of Plantagenet who made this possible.

Seniors Open Day...

We were expecting 50/60 and hoping for 70/80 – 100/110 Seniors attended. Fantastic day!

There was entertainment and morning tea – many thanks to the Mount Barker Community College, they all did a great job.

Lunch time was catered by Rhonda Dixon.
